Harnesses are mainly used in motorsport and are designed specifically to keep you secure in the seat and help prevent injury in the event of an accident. Unlike standard seat belts, a race harness does not have an inertia reel. Instead harness belts are bolted to the floor and clip into a central buckle. Adjustment straps allow for the harness straps to be tightened for a secure fit. Most race and rally events require a harness with an FIA approval. These race / rally harnesses have a rotary type quick release buckle which allows for easy release from the harness even if your full body weight is supported by it (eg if you are upside down in the car).
